Pavilion Extension At Newborough Football Netball ClubWorks on an extension to the pavilion at Northern Reserve, Newborough are soon to commence, following the announcement of funding from the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program. By Latrobe City Council - 24th April 2009 - Back to News The Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program has been implemented to stimulate additional growth and economic activity as part of the Federal Government’s contribution to addressing the global economic crisis. Larger projects and projects which include partnership funding have been given preference and part of the requirement was that they should be additional and ready to commence construction within six months of signing the funding agreement.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Lisa Price, said that the need to improve the facilities at Northern Reserve was identified under the Moe Newborough Outdoor Recreation Plan.
"Under this plan, we identified several areas of improvement, including the provision of umpire and female change rooms and public toilets. Despite these requirements being tabled, work on the project was unable to proceed, due to the lack of available funding.
"Council decided to put in an application for the project to be funded under the Federal Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program. The application was successful and attracted funding of $230,000, together with our own $50,000 contribution," Cr Price explained.
"With the total funding now at $280,000, full plans for the refurbished extension to the pavilion can be brought to fruition. This will benefit not only the current teams, but also make the facilities more attractive to visiting teams and officials," Cr Price added.
Latrobe City councillor, Cr Sharon Gibson, said that work on the project is expected to commence in early June and be completed by September.
"Once completed, the new extension will include new public toilets, umpires’ rooms, female change rooms, trainers’ room and an extended home change room.
"There will be continual access to facilities for the users of the reserve during the redevelopment," Cr Gibson said.
"The Newborough Football Netball Club, and the Hawks and Bulldogs Junior Football clubs, will soon have access to vastly improved facilities and visiting teams and officials will also enjoy the comfort of the improved amenities," Cr Gibson concluded.
