Bullock Island redevelopment and impressive facelift will enhance Lakes Entrance liveability and visitor economy
Darren Chester praises the revitalisation of Lakes Entrance Bullock Island, acknowledging its historical neglect and highlighting the project's regional significance for social and economic benefits.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester says the Bullock Island redevelopment will boost the visitor economy and improve the liveability of Lakes Entrance. Mr Chester has worked with community groups for several years to secure funding for the master plan on the island and is impressed with recent progress.

Enhanced visitor experience
Mr Chester said, "Much maligned in the past for its gravel road, enormous potholes and poor visitor facilities, we have a new-look destination for locals and visitors taking shape in Lakes Entrance. Bullock Island has had a chequered history because it was so badly neglected but still very popular for anglers and sight-seeing visitors, despite the appalling facilities."
"The island is finally getting the care and attention it deserves with a $5.5 million facelift. All levels of government have contributed to the implementation of the master plan which includes asphalting of access roads, footpaths, new seating, a toilet block and beautification works."
"In addition to the seawall replacement and new vehicle bridge, there's no doubt that Bullock Island will grow in popularity for locals and visitors, plus LEFCOL has a new on-water cafe which will be trading this summer," Mr Chester said.
Gippsland's economic boost
Mr Chester said the project was regionally significant and would deliver social and economic benefit for Gippsland. "After years of lobbying in support of community volunteers, it's great to see some infrastructure projects starting to take shape across our region."
"These projects which improve the liveability of our region are important for the visitor economy but they also make it easier to attract and retain skilled workers across Gippsland. Providing opportunities for people to enjoy an active, outdoor lifestyle in a beautiful location like Bullock Island is an investment in the future of the region," Mr Chester said.
