Pet registration changesBy Wellington Shire Council - 30th November 2004 - Back to News Wellington Shire Council would like to advise all residents that under recently introduced changes to Victorian Government legislation they must now register their pets from three months of age, with all existing registrations continuing to be due on 10 April each year.
The Government hopes this revision will encourage animal owners to have their animals de-sexed earlier, reducing the rate of unwanted dog and cat breeding.
Pet registration makes it much easier for the council to reunite lost cats and dogs with their owners, and helps support pet-related services in the shire such as animal control and community education about responsible pet ownership.
The standard fee for registration is $60.00, and a reduced rate of $20.00 is available for de-sexed or micro-chipped pets, animals aged over ten years, farm dogs and pets with an approved certificate of obedience. A further discount of 50% is available to pensioners who present a valid concession card.
Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "Pet and animal safety is an extremely important service the council brings to our community and helps to keep Wellington a safe place to live, work and visit."
