Local Artists Offer Masterclass At Gallery
Latrobe Regional Gallery’s Masterclass program is designed to allow participants the opportunity to explore techniques and styles in an informal atmosphere.
The next class will be held on Saturday 30 August from 11am to 4pm.
Latrobe City Council’s acting senior curator, Shelley McDermott, said that for the next Masterclass two local artists would discuss their own techniques to guide participants’ creations.
"We are delighted that two local artists, Michael Gallop and Neale Stratford, who are both achieving international recognition for their works, will present this Masterclass. Michael will guide participants through a variety of techniques used to create a small sculptural figure. Neale Stratford will then discuss techniques relating to elements of photography, particularly related to the lighting and arrangement of still life and figurative work.
"Those who attend are encouraged to bring along sketches and found objects they would like to develop into an artwork. This is a really hands-on day which should see some stunning visual pieces created. Participants can then take what they’ve learned back to their home studios and develop their ideas and techniques further," Ms McDermott said.
The Masterclass is open to youth and adults regardless of ability and will run on Saturday 30 August from 11am to 4pm. The cost is $60 or $50 for Gallery Friends members. Bookings and payment are essential by Friday 29 August. All materials will be supplied. Light refreshments will be provided, however participants are encouraged to bring or purchase their own lunch.
Latrobe Regional Gallery has recently acquired works from Michael Gallop and Neale Stratford which are currently being exhibited in ‘The Sound of Shadows: Figurative Works from the Latrobe Regional Gallery Collection’
