Latrobe City Council's hard waste collection service will begin in Yinnar, Yinnar South and Boolarra this December, followed by other towns in the new year.

More accessible collection service
Mayor of Latrobe City Cr Kellie O'Callaghan said the free collections were part of an overall expansion of council's hard waste service in response to community feedback. "This is a new service to replace the booking system that was previously in place. Council introduced this service as part of the 2022/23 Budget, aiming to make hard waste collection more accessible to our community and reduce illegal dumping."
"While collections have previously taken place in November and December, this is a new service for all residents, regardless of whether you own or rent your property. We understand there has been a lot of anticipation amongst the community about when the service would start. After the budget came into effect in July, a tender process was undertaken to select a contractor to deliver the service, which was awarded at council's November meeting."
"Since then, council has worked with the contractor to plan the service to ensure it meets the needs of the community. Collection dates and locations for 2023 for other parts of the municipality will be provided in the coming weeks," said the Mayor.
Hard waste collection operation
In addition to the free hard waste collections, residents can use the coupons issued with the 2022-2023 rates notice at any Latrobe City Council Transfer Station in Moe, Morwell Traralgon and Yinnar South.
Each coupon allows the free disposal of up to one cubic metre of general hard waste OR up to one cubic metre of green waste. Commencing in 2023, a booked paid hard waste collection service will also be available.
All green waste must still be taken to PineGro Green Waste Recycling Facilities in Morwell, Moe and Traralgon. For more information about hard waste collections, including a list of acceptable items, visit the Latrobe City Council's 'Hard Waste Collection Service' website.
