Several East Gippsland communities have turned roadside emergency static water tanks into vibrant works of community art, with murals now complete at Wairewa, Nowa Nowa, Doctors Flat and Tambo Upper. The projects have brought together the CFA, local artists and community members to celebrate resilience and recovery, transforming everyday infrastructure into eye-catching public artworks.

Murals celebrate resilience

Mayor Cr Jodie Ashworth said the murals were a wonderful example of communities turning something practical into something to be proud of. "These water tanks play a really important role in emergency management, but they’ve also become a canvas for our communities to tell their own stories of resilience and recovery."

"It’s fantastic to see local artists and CFA volunteers working side by side with community members who took the time to share their ideas for the designs with the artists. The results speak for themselves - these murals are already becoming a point of pride in each town, with each one reflecting the town’s unique story, its people and its recovery journey," Cr Ashworth said.

Local artist Lee Nickless brought the Doctors Flat tank to life, while Simon White is behind the artworks at Wairewa, Nowa Nowa and Tambo Upper. Three more tanks are still to be completed with projects planned for Gipsy Point, South Buchan and Benambra.
