Labor announces four new regional early learning centres for 2029, expanding access to kindergarten and long daycare placesLabor will open four new Early Learning Victoria centres in Alexandra, Drouin, Hamilton and Seymour from 2029, providing more than 400 childcare and kindergarten places across regional Victoria. By news@gippsland - 26th August 2026 - Back to News Labor is opening another four Early Learning Victoria centres in 2029. It means 24 regional centres will have opened in just five years, alongside 11 in metropolitan Melbourne. Minister Blandthorn announced today that Alexandra, Drouin, Hamilton and Seymour will be the next locations. The centres will be built at Alexandra Primary School, the former Bainsbridge College East Campus in Hamilton, Seymour College Agricultural Campus and the Drouin site will be announced soon.
Labor will open four Early Learning Victoria centres in Alexandra, Drouin, Hamilton and Seymour, delivering more than 400 kinder and childcare places from 2029 More access to early learningTogether they'll deliver more than 400 places for children, with integrated kindergarten and long daycare programs. Families will also be able to access Free Kinder as part of the kinder offering. They'll have consulting rooms for maternal and child health, plus community spaces for other programs. Labor opened 14 new government owned and operated centres this year. On top of the four opened in 2025, more than 1,800 children can now access high-quality early education in an Early Learning Victoria centre. Another 13 centres are opening across 2027 and 2028, as Labor delivers 50 Early Learning Victoria centres. The Liberal/Nationals have no plan for early education - just cuts, like the $1 billion they cut from education when they were last in office. For more information, visit Early Learning Victoria website. Expanding regional early learningMinister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn said, "Four more centres means hundreds more places for children - on top of the thousands we've created across the 18 centres already open. We're delivering high-quality early education options, close to home, for families across regional Victoria." Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "As our communities across Gippsland continue to grow we've also continued to fund and build new early learning centres, primary schools and schools. The new centre in Drouin will help more families to access Free Kinder and long daycare, alongside a range of other programs and supports. It will generate more local jobs and provide a really wonderful start for little ones to reach their full potential." Pictures from Harriet Shing MP Instagram page.
