Advocacy Priority list endorsed and several important grant applications supported by Bass Coast Shire Council

Revised and updated advocacy priorities that will seek funding.

Bass Coast Shire Council endorsed the fifth version of its Advocacy Priority list, while also supporting several important grant applications at the July Council Meeting. The revised and updated list of Advocacy Priorities will pursue projects that will seek funding support from both Federal and State Governments. The list continues to reflect aspirations, opportunities, issues and projects within the areas of highest priority consistent with what has been identified in the Council Plan 2017-21.

Advocacy priorities

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari, said that the Advocacy Strategy 2018-21 has successfully guided the way Council identifies advocacy priorities and promotes them, resulting in some great outcomes with significant levels of investment for health, environment, education, housing, social services, recreation and road infrastructure.

Highlights of the advocacy priorities

Cr Tessari said, "Over the past four to five years, our focus on advocacy has contributed towards many successful funding announcements for the Bass Coast community. There has been well over $200 million in investment into Bass Coast. "

"Some of the highlights include the Wonthaggi Hospital Upgrade, new secondary schools and recreation facilities, the provision of a Community Hospital in Cowes, Guy Road Shared Path, funding for the new Country Universities Centre - Bass Coast, $25 million commitment to Bass Coast for Homelessness and Affordable Housing, support towards mental health and suicide prevention and funding towards erosion mitigation works."

Funding opportunities

A number of funding opportunities were also endorsed at the July Meeting. The grants are available through Victoria's Regional Infrastructure Fund and Investment Fast-Track Fund programs. Council will apply for funding from the State for the Cowes to Rhyll Trail - Stage 1, the Wonthaggi to Inverloch Rail Trail Bridge Project, the Wonthaggi Museum Platform Glazing Project and the Bass Coast Dinosaurs Trail Creative Concepts Detailed Design.

Grant applications

Cr Tessari said he was pleased to see this list of shovel ready grant applications, linked to priority projects. "It shows we are on the right track when we can present our priorities with one report and pursue grant funding support in another,"

"Council will apply for four grants and auspice one grant on behalf of Corinella Boating and Angling Club, which includes a Council contribution of $110,000 towards their Pavilion Project. Fingers crossed we are successful again," Cr Tessari concluded.
