The Victorian Ski Titles scheduled for Hazelwood Pondage over the Australia Day weekend have been cancelled due to concerns over falling water levels.

Latrobe City’s General Manager Marketing and Community Relations, Michael Edgar, said the Victorian Ski Titles and the Points Score Championship Round Four were due to be held between 8am and 6pm on Saturday 25 January, and 8am and 1pm on Sunday 26 January.

"Ski Racing Victoria was to have exclusive use of the Pondage during those hours, with other boating enthusiasts only able to use the Pondage before and after these times and at any time on the public holiday Monday. Notification of these arrangements has already been extensively advertised to campers at Hazelwood Pondage and in a public notice appearing in the Express," Mr Edgar said.

The temporary restrictions for boating enthusiasts over the Australia Day weekend now no longer apply, and the public may now have full access to the waters of Hazelwood Pondage subject to the normal restrictions imposed under the Marine Act.

While the public can now access Hazelwood Pondage over the whole of the Australia Day weekend for boating, it should be noted that Ski Racing Victoria has deemed the water level unsuitable for their own competition. As such, users of vessels on the waters should take into account that the depth may be unsuitable for their own recreational pursuits, and should exercise caution accordingly," Mr Edgar added.
