Shoppers Want Easy Parking For ChristmasBusiness premises across Wellington can maximise their Christmas shopping attractions by providing easy parking for customers By Karen Gregory - 25th November 2002 - Back to News Over the next two weeks, Wellington Shire Council’s local laws officers will be assisting retailers by giving advice on parking in Yarram and Maffra’s central shopping areas.
Customer Services Manager Colin Adams has responded to a request by traders in the Yarram area to encourage business proprietors and their employees to park their vehicles away from central business districts over Christmas and the New Year.
"There’s no doubt that shoppers are attracted to towns where easy parking is provided. Nobody wants to walk long distances carrying heavy shopping in warm weather. If parking is restricted, then shoppers are quite likely to drive on until they find an easier place to park.
"We want to make sure that Wellington business gets the most from Christmas shopping and the New Year sales. It’s a bonus time of year for many shops and it would be a pity if they were to miss out because parking space in our commercial areas are taken up by vehicles parking all-day."
To reinforce the Christmas message, Council’s Parking & By-laws officers will be in Yarram on Thursday and Friday 28 and 29 November and will move onto Maffra the following Friday, 6 December, calling into business premises with a friendly request that they do the right thing and find convenient all-day parking outside the immediate town centre for the Christmas and New Year period.
