Over 70 Submissions Received Re: Design FrameworkPhillip Island and San Remo Design Framework brings in feedback By Carol McCormack - 6th August 2002 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council received more than 70 submissions about the draft Phillip Island and San Remo Design Framework. The draft Framework was on display from 7 June to 12 July.
The Design Framework is an important opportunity for the community to establish a clear vision for Phillip Island and San Remo. The Framework will guide future development and land-use in the area.
The draft Design Framework was put together after an extensive consultation program, which adopted many different types of consultation with the local community.
"Council is delighted with the amount of feedback from people about the draft Framework," said Sue Porter, Project Officer with Council. "The submissions that were received raise many serious issues which will need to be given further consideration by the Project Steering Committee."
Sue said that some of the biggest issues raised were the future development of the Smiths Beach and Sunderland Bay areas, the future of the San Remo carpark, and the need for a greater emphasis on environmentally sensitive design principles in new development.
"Without a doubt we will end up with a much better Framework due to the extensive feedback received from the community about the draft document," said Sue. "I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the Project for their commitment and contribution."
Sue said that the Steering Committee, Project Team and Council will address the issues made in the submissions over the next two weeks. People who have participated in the project so far will be advised of the outcome of the submission analysis phase and the proposed changes and amendments to the Draft Framework through the Project Newsletter.
After the submissions have been analysed and addressed, the Framework will be forwarded to Council for consideration and adoption. Following adoption, actions will be taken to include this important document within the Planning Scheme.
