Latrobe Local News: Mobil Park To Be AuctionedWill the facility stay in local hands for the benefit of the community? By Latrobe City Council - 13th February 2002 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said
Mobil Park, the former Eastern Pride facility in Crinigan Road Morwell, is to be auctioned at 2pm on Thursday 28 March.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins, said that Council had a clear responsibility to the facility’s creditors to ensure that the best possible price for the property was achieved.
“Our legal position is quite clear. As mortgagee in possession of Mobil Park, we have to demonstrate that we have done everything in our power to maximise the sale value of the property for all creditors. The only conclusive way for us to demonstrate this, is to place the property in the hands of auctioneers,” Cr Jenkins said.
“Obviously we would like to see the facility stay in local hands for the benefit of the community, and there have been a couple of expressions of interest in the property shown by local organisations. However, legal advice determines that the facility should go to auction rather than direct sale to ensure creditors are not disadvantaged. We therefore hope local bidders will take part in the auction,” Cr Jenkins added.
Morwell auctioneers BJ Bennett & Co will handle the auction on behalf of Council. Further enquiries can be made to Geoff Bennett, telephone 5134 2790.
