Volunteers in Bass Coast Shire are invited to celebrate and participate in a photographic exhibition that showcases volunteers in the Shire. "Celebrate and Participate – an exhibition of volunteers" will illustrate the efforts and diversity of volunteers in the Shire, and promote the opportunity for others to take part in volunteer groups and projects.

Volunteer organisations and individual volunteers are invited to submit photographs and information about the services, facilities and activities they provide. These photographs and information will then be organised into a travelling exhibition that will tour towns in the Shire.

Cr Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council, explained that Council and the community recognise the need to acknowledge the work of the volunteers and the important roles that volunteers play in the development of the community.

"2001 is International Year of Volunteers and this exhibition will showcase the diversity of the work of local volunteers and demonstrate Council and the community’s appreciation of the contribution made by volunteers," said Cr Sage. "Volunteers play an important part in our community by providing facilities and activities that would not be possible without their involvement."

"The exhibition will also be an opportunity for volunteer organisations to promote their service and encourage more people to join in a volunteer capacity," said Cr Sage.

Individuals and organisations interested in taking part in the exhibition should contact Council on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311 for an application form. These forms can also be read or printed from Council’s website at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au. Dates of the exhibition are yet to be finalised.

Council was successful in applying for a $15,000 Grant from the Victorian State Government’s International Year of Volunteers Grants Program for the exhibition.
