Yallourn North Outdoor Pool Opens Saturday www.picsearch.com The Yallourn North solar-heated outdoor pool will be the first of Latrobe City’s outdoor pools to open its doors this year, with the season opening this Saturday 10 November. By Latrobe City - 9th November 2007 - Back to News Latrobe City’s leisure centres coordinator, Georgina Mitchell, said the opening event will be a fun-filled day with games, music and spot prizes to be won.
"Come along on Saturday 10 November and enjoy free entry to the pool from 12 noon to 2pm and enjoy a delicious barbecue. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon," Ms Mitchell said.
"The baby, toddler and main pool are all solar heated at Yallourn North, so it’s the ideal venue for small children, older persons and somewhere to spend those cooler or overcast days.
"As a result of the solar heating, patrons visiting Yallourn North outdoor pool can enjoy temperatures up to five degrees higher than at the other outdoor facilities throughout the season. The solar heating also starts to heat the water earlier in the year which means Yallourn North’s pool season can be extended by a couple of months."
"The pool is set in beautiful surrounds and offers great facilities for all the family and so throughout the year Latrobe Leisure plans to run a number of family orientated events at all of the pools. These events are a great day out for all the family with plenty of fun activities to keep the children happy, so keep your eyes open for details," Ms Mitchell said.
"For special occasions, groups may book out the party room which offers self catering facilities. There’s a Playstation for hire, toilet facilities and space for party games," Ms Mitchell explained.
Latrobe City councillor, Cr Bruce Lougheed said during the closed season, Yallourn North Outdoor Pool has undergone considerable upgrade work.
"The works, undertaken as a result of the Communities Facilities Funding Program in conjunction with Yallourn North Primary School, have included painting the building’s exterior; painting and upgrading the change rooms and toilet facilities; landscaping works; replacement of the filtration system; and increased access for all abilities through the removal of the old turnstile at the entrance to the facility," Cr Lougheed said.
"With some warm days already experienced this year, Latrobe’s outdoor pools should experience another busy season. While the Traralgon and Moe outdoor pools will open their doors for the summer season on Saturday 1 December, families can extend their use of council’s outdoor pools by taking advantage of the extended season at Yallourn North; making the purchase of a season ticket even better value," Cr Lougheed said.
All pools offer kiosk facilities selling refreshments and light snacks, barbecue areas, shade and free sunscreen. Season and family passes are available and Latrobe Leisure Gold Card members can access the outdoor pools as part of their membership.
Latrobe City’s outdoor pools are open weekends 12 noon - 7pm; during term time Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 3.30pm – 7pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays 2pm – 7pm; and during school holidays 12 noon – 7pm daily. The outdoor pools are all closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
