Graphic designer and illustrator Eirian Chapman, has begun painting a new mural at Olive Justice Place in Cowes, as part of Bass Coast Shire Council’s Street Art Scheme Legacy of the communityEirian Chapman is a Cowes local whose bold, graphic designs have appeared in campaigns for Destination Phillip Island, Melbourne Zoo, Schweppes and the Melbourne Writers’ Festival, among others. In this mural, at iconic Olive Justice Place, Eirian will be depicting many aspects of life on the Island, while honouring the memory of Olive Justice, whose legacy of community work and trailblazing endeavours during the pre-ferry era of Phillip Island, still resonate to this day. Creating wonderful points of interestBass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said that Council’s Street Art Scheme will see a number of mural projects completed across the Shire. "These murals, such as the beautiful birds in Wonthaggi or the abstract wall in Grantville, create wonderful points of interest in our towns, it is wonderful to see both local and visiting artists bringing their visions to the walls of Bass Coast." Murals in different locationsOwing to its graphic design, Eirian’s mural will be visible from many locations in the immediate area and is bound to promote discussion around giving and nurturing, motherhood and the very topical issue of women’s rights. It’ll also be a great feature of the pop-up outdoor dining area, encouraging contemplation while diners share lunch with their friends or families. Temporary fencing will be installed in the area while work on the mural is underway.
