Tired Of Telephone Sales? There May Be An Answer

For those people who are tired of being targeted by telephone marketeers in the office or at home, Gippsland MP Peter Hall says there may be a solution.

By Peter Hall - 25th February 2005 - Back to News

"Those calls, promoting telecommunications products, trying to sell raffle tickets or sponsorships and even surveys for large corporations, can drive people to distraction," Mr Hall said.

"To its credit, the Australian Direct Marketing Association has realised this is becoming more and more of an intrusion into people’s lives and had come up with an ‘opt-out’ facility.

"All an individual has to do is contact the ADMA on 1800 646 664 or visit the website at www.adma.com.au and complete the "Do Not Contact Service" form.

"While I cannot at this stage speak for the ADMA and say that it will resolve everyone’s issues, it is worth considering if you find constant unsolicited calls a real nuisance," Mr Hall said.

He added that he would be interested in hearing from anyone who uses the service, to gain an appreciation of its effectiveness.
