Member for Morwell Russell Northe is calling on the State Labor Government to ensure the Boolarra Police station does not remain closed into the future.

Mr Northe said he had been approached by a number of Boolarra residents who have expressed their concern that the Boolarra police station which is currently closed, may not reopen.

"It’s my understanding that Boolarra’s long standing police officer in Gary Mills is soon to retire and it’s imperative the Labor Government provides resources to Victoria Police to ensure that Boolarra station is not permanently closed," Mr Northe said.

"Our local police do a fantastic job in difficult circumstances and the closure of Boolarra station places additional strain on nearby stations such as Churchill, Morwell and Mirboo North.

"Gary Mills has been an outstanding member of Victoria Police for many years, and the Boolarra community has made it very clear of their desire to see Gary’s position replaced once he formally retires from the force.

"I will continue to advocate on behalf of the Boolarra community for the reopening of their police station and to ensure this is a matter of priority for the Government."

Shadow Minister for Police, Edward O’Donohue said under Daniel Andrews, crime in Victoria is up over 8% and gangs continue to terrorise the community with carjackings, drive-by shootings, home invasions and public brawls.

"Despite this shocking crime wave, Daniel Andrews has allowed police stations to close and the number of front line police at stations to be cut," Mr O’Donohue said.
