RPL/RCC Kits for StudentsGippsTAFE is offering Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) kits to students enrolling at GippsTAFE who have already gained qualifications or relevant experience in their chosen field. By GippsTAFE - 17th February 2004 - Back to News Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) is the acknowledgement of individual skills and knowledge, irrespective of how it has been acquired.
It includes competencies gained through formal study and work or life experience and the procedure of RPL is available to all students in accredited courses.
In 2003 RPL/RCC Officer Julie Bartram developed the first of many RPL/RCC "Kits".
"The kits are a self-explanatory, easy to use, step-by-step guide to assist students in the collation of appropriate evidence suitable for RPL/RCC application," said Ms Bartram.
"Because each kit provides the user with examples of ‘evidence’, students are able to develop their portfolio without intense teacher assistance.
"This makes the RPL/RCC process more user-friendly for students, less time consuming for teachers and yet maintains the principles of quality assessment to ensure all competencies are appropriately assessed."
The RPL/RCC kits have already proved to be highly successful.
"The success of the kits was evident when an external student heard about the process and was sent a kit," said Ms Bartram.
Ms Bartram said that by using the kit the student was able to complete the Institute’s RPL/RCC requirements and successfully gain the Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, all without the need to contact his assessor prior to the completed kit being assessed.
"The fact that the student had no need to set foot on campus during the entire process was an added benefit to the student, "said Ms Bartram.
RPL/RCC kits currently available include: Certificate III Community Services (Telephone Counselling), Certificate IV Community Services (Aged Care Work), Certificate IV Community Services (Disability Work), Certificate IV Financial Services (Accounting), Certificate IV Business (Frontline Management), Certificate IV Business (Human Resources), Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment, Diploma of Business (Frontline Management), Diploma of Business (Human Resources) and Diploma of Training and Assessment Systems.
Many more kits will become available throughout 2004. For more information on RPL/RCC kits, please contact Julie Bartram at GippsTAFE’s Morwell Campus on 5120 4500.
