Gippsland › Latest news › Department of Sustainability and EnvironmentBlue Rock Fire Contained Over WeekendThe fire at Blue Rock dam, north of Moe was declared officially contained at 5.00pm on Saturday April 17. By Department of Sustainability and Environment - 19th April 2004 - Back to News Cooler conditions and light rain kept fire behaviour quiet later on Saturday and assisted crews completing the containment line around the fire.
Visiting fire crews were released late on Saturday and local DSE firefighters continued with blacking out and patrol work.
Reconnaissance aircraft observed the fire area over Sunday and lines were consolidated with dozers and handtrailing.
Late on Sunday night there were still 80 personnel, one tanker, 20 slip-on units, one dozer and two helicopters working on the fire.
DSE Fire Management would like to express their gratitude to the CFA personnel who assisted with the fire fight, both directly on the fire ground and in the Incident Management Centre.
DSE will continue to patrol and monitor the fire area throughout the week as weather conditions continue to be variable. There may still be smoke visible from this fire for a few days.
