Forum For Mature Aged WorkersA forum for mature aged workers will be held at Chisolm TAFE, Wonthaggi on Wednesday 29 October, starting at 6pm. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th October 2008 - Back to News The forum will focus on older workers and the contribution they can make to the workforce.
Bass Coast Shire Council’s Economic Development Manager, Peter Francis, said the forum was part of the "Age Is No Barrier - Make Experience Work for You" project.
"The project is a partnership between Council, Chisholm TAFE and the Job Find Centre," explained Mr Francis.
"This forum is the first in a series aimed at businesses looking for employees and people over 55 who are interested in continuing in the workforce."
Grace Johnston, CEO of Busy Boomers and Manager of Working Connections, is the guest speaker at the first forum.
"Grace is an experienced trainer, writer and media commentor and we are very lucky to have her as our guest," Mr Francis said.
"She is one of the leading voices on what is happening at the cutting edge of employment, work creation and active retirement.
"I think her insights into the current labour market shifts and their effects on mature workers will be very valuable," continued Mr Francis.
"Grace believes that businesses can benefit significantly by making better and more flexible use of the skills and knowledge of older workers and she will be exploring these themes at the forum."
Mr Francis said the high percentage of older residents in Bass Coast meant the themes of the forum were particularly relevant for this area.
"We want to see local businesses and workers come along to the forum, share some refreshments and listen to a very interesting speaker," encouraged Mr Francis.
"It will also be an opportunity for you to have your say about the issues and opportunities for mature workers and businesses in Bass Coast."
Anyone interested in attending can register by calling Council’s Customer Service on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) by Monday 27 October.
