Join Bass Coast Shire Council on 8 March, 2024, at Silverwater Resort, San Remo, for International Women's Day lunch with keynote speaker Nicole Livingstone
Inclusive sports event
For this year's Bass Coast event our theme is inspiring inclusion and we will focus on women in sport at a professional and community level. When women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment. The aim of the 2024 #InspireInclusion campaign is to collectively forge a more inclusive world for women.
Please join us to be inspired by our keynote speaker Nicole Livingstone OAM, who is well known for her illustrious swimming career including an Olympic record held for over 16 years and her expert sports commentator career spanning 20 years. Nicole also co-founded and is patron of Ovarian Cancer Australia and spent seven years as head of AFL Women's Football, where she made significant changes to the game.
We will also hear from a panel of other women in sport including some inspirational Bass Coast local residents. This event is not just for people who identify as women: everybody is welcome. International Women's Day is a time for us all, regardless of gender identity, to acknowledge the progress that women have made towards equality - while remembering there is still much to do. Inspiring inclusion, achieving equality, building allyship and dismantling damaging stereotypes is as important for men as it is for women, so we welcome everyone to attend.
Empowering community inclusion
Mayor, Cr Clare Le Serve said, "Council celebrates any opportunity to include and empower all communities in Bass Coast. It is important that we increase representation of women at all levels of sport. Women should be able to embrace and participate in sports and physical activity that suits them in our community without fear of judgement."
"I am looking forward to listening to Nicole Livingstone and our panel but also meeting our community and enjoying lunch at one of our fantastic local venues," Cr Clare Le Serve said. Bass Coast Shire Council thanks our sponsors Bass Coast Health, Phillip Island Nature Parks and Westernport Water for their continued support.
