"It is a great way to celebrate the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia and Bass Coast," said Council’s Community Development Team Leader, Kerri Ritchie.

"This year’s theme is Honouring our Elders, Nurturing our Youth. Coalfields Gallery will host an art exhibition as well as cultural awareness activities aimed at young people.

"We invite everyone to come along and help celebrate NAIDOC Week," encouraged Ms Ritchie.

As part of NAIDOC week Bass Coast is once again supporting an indigenous art exhibition. The art exhibition will feature art by local indigenous artist Patrice Muthaymiles Mahony.

Janice Orchard, Coalfield Art Gallery Manager says she is thrilled that Patrice is once again putting her work on show for everyone to see.

"Patrice is the driving force behind the NAIDOC celebrations and is supported by us and the local reconciliation group as well as Bass Coast Shire Council," explained Ms Orchard.

"Some of the fantastic events that will be running this NAIDOC week at Coalfield Gallery include Basket Weaving, children’s activities, free BBQ, school activities and more, I encourage everyone to come along and join in the fun", said Ms Orchard.
