Free lupin crop surveysGrains staff from the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) are again preparing to undertake surveys of Victorian lupin crops during spring. By Department of Primary Industries - 21st October 2005 - Back to News Victoria has been surveying lupin crops for the past six years to check for the presence of the disease lupin anthracnose.
At this stage lupin anthracnose has not been discovered in crops in Victoria. This disease exists in Western Australia and South Australia and can cause significant lupin seed yield losses.
Victorian lupin growers are invited to contact a grains officer at their local DPI office to arrange for a free lupin crop inspection.
The inspection needs to be undertaken while crops are in the grain filling stage, and for most areas, this will occur during the next few weeks.
All lupin growing areas in Victoria will be surveyed and it is hoped that the disease will again be confirmed not to occur in Victoria.
For further information please contact Banjo Patterson at DPI Hamilton on (03) 5573 0730.
