More than 40 members of the local community attended a meeting in Grantville on Thursday evening (1 November) to discuss about the possibility of a Rural Transaction Centre being located in their town.

"The response from those attending was overwhelmingly positive," said Cr John Hulley, Councillor for Leadbeater Ward. "People were very keen to find out what a rural transaction centre could include and how to apply for one in Grantville."

The Rural Transaction Centres (RTC) Programme is a Federal Government initiative to assist people living in smaller rural towns to have the same access to basic services that people in larger towns and cities take for granted, such as banking services, Centrelink and Medicare claims etc.

Laurie Hiscock, Field Officer with the Rural Transaction Centre, made a presentation to the meeting about the role or Rural Transaction Centres.

Council will now work with the community and the Rural Transaction Centre Program to prepare a business plan for a Transaction Centre in Grantville.

Members of the Grantville and District community who have suggestions about the Transaction Centre can contact Cr John Hulley on 5678 8437 or leave their written suggestion at Council’s Grantville Customer Service Centre at Bass Highway, Grantville.
