DPI RECOVERY TEAMS AT WORK ON FIRE AFFECTED PROPERTIES

The Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Agricultural Recovery Teams have begun inspecting properties that have registered for debris removal, wild dog exclusion fencing assistance and establishment of stock containment areas.

There are in excess of 200 landholders currently registered for inspection, with 48 inspections carried out as of Monday March 24.

DPI Catchment Management Officers from as far afield as Leongatha are working in the Swifts Creek, Omeo, Benambra, Wulgulmerang and Tubbut areas.

Fencing Team Leader, Vaughn Kingston said that staff are working with landholders to address the issues they have in the aftermath of the fires.

"We’re trying to work as effectively as we can to help landholders recover and rehabilitate as quickly as possible after the devastating fires," Mr Kingston said.

To date the following facts and figures have been collected:

85km of debris removal required, 79km of new wild dog exclusion fencing required and 15km of dog fencing repair required.

Registrations are still being taken for fire affected landholders wanting to apply for the fencing package, or for funding assistance for debris removal, temporary stock containment areas and the development of water supply systems.

For further information contact Vaughn Kingston, Bairnsdale DPI on (03) 5152 0600.
