Mayor Has A Ball With CharityFriday 26 October 2007 is the date of Bass Coast’s 4th Annual Mayoral Charity Ball. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 29th August 2007 - Back to News The Mayoral Charity Ball is a local fund raising event, with all proceeds going to the Bass Coast Community Foundation.
This year, the Town Hall in Wonthaggi will be transformed as part of the Cirque Du Soleil themed evening.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Neville Goodwin said he was really looking forward to the Ball.
"This is a wonderful night out in support of a great cause," said Cr Goodwin.
"The Bass Coast Community Foundation is a local philanthropic trust, established by local people solely to help our community.
"The Ball is a way for people to enjoy a great night out and give something back to the community," Cr Goodwin continued.
Cr Goodwin said that last year’s Ball raised $12,000 and he is hoping to do the same again this year.
"We really need the local community’s help to make this a success," said Cr Goodwin.
"There are lots of ways to get involved. Your business could sponsor the night, or you could simply buy a ticket and come along.
"If you are interested in being part of this, please contact Council," urged Cr Goodwin.
Cr Goodwin said the Bass Coast Community Foundation was involved in a number of projects that improve the lives of people in our community. These included a Youth Mentoring and Back to School program, as well as a series of Community Grants.
"The Mentoring Program is about helping students at secondary school stay at school and find future employment opportunities," explained Cr Goodwin.
"The Foundation also distributed 300 Coles Myer vouchers to schools in Bass Coast, to help with back to school costs.
"And groups from across the Shire received the Community Grants - from Phillip Island, to Corinella, Mitchell House, the YMCA and Bass Coast Barracuda’s over 70’s triathalon team," said Cr Goodwin.
