Relief Wild Dog Controller Positions CreatedThe Department of Primary Industries has added to its wild dog program with the creation of relief wild dog controller positions. By Department of Primary Industries - 15th June 2007 - Back to News In Gippsland two wild dog controllers will be employed for a period of six months.
Chair of the Gippsland Wild Dog Management Group, Alan Brown, said the additional wild dog controllers will provide support to landholders experiencing wild dog activity while wild dog management staff are on leave.
"There will be a transition period to enable the relievers to become familiar with the area and wild dog activity."
Geoff Hodge, Senior Wild Dog Controller based in Buchan, said these positions will help to fill any gaps and will allow the current wild dog controllers to pass on their knowledge and unique skills.
"I have been controlling wild dogs for more than twenty years and this is one of the best initiatives I’ve seen on the ground."
The relief wild dog controllers will be flexible, in that they will work across Gippsland to assist in areas experiencing high levels of wild dog activity.
