Moe Youth Action Centre

An action-packed program of events has kept the young people who attend the Moe Youth Action Centre very busy over the past few weeks.

Latrobe’s Youth Action Centre worker, Tynele Smyth, said that the programs were generally designed to promote confidence.

"Our Teen Survivor program has been extremely successful. It was a great opportunity for young people to participate in exercises including communication, cooking, budgeting, self esteem and relaxation techniques. It taught the young people good coping skills as well as being enjoyable," Ms Smyth said.

"The mosaics program will be an ongoing attraction for those that are interested and the computers are always popular. We must thank Microsoft for their generous donation of software to the centre," Ms Smyth said.

Ms Smyth said that as well as participating in the interesting activities on the agenda, the young people at the Youth Action Centre have been busy giving the building a makeover.

"The new signage has generated a lot of interest in recent weeks, and congratulations go to Jasmine Yeboah who was involved with the design of the Youth Action Centre logo. Jasmine received a certificate of appreciation and a fifty dollar Midvalley voucher for her contribution," Ms Smyth added.

"The new front garden has gathered a lot of positive feedback from local residents. All young people attending the centre made an amazing contribution to the garden and worked hard with the staff to try and create a colourful and inviting area," Ms Smyth continued.

"An eight week self-defence program will be up and running as of 1 July so we would encourage all young people to come along and join in," Ms Smyth said.

Ms Smyth added that The Youth Action Centre is about having fun in a safe and secure environment with fully supervised staff. It’s a place to build on new skills, self confidence and a place to meet friends.

If you are aged between 12-18 and want to be involved, the centre is open every Tuesday night from 4pm-8pm. For more information contact Tynele on 5132 2800 or free call 1800 196 884
