Opportunity to boost Maffra accommodation with long-term holiday park leaseBy Wellington Shire Council - 23rd March 2005 - Back to News
Wellington Shire Council is inviting expressions of interest from private investors to redevelop and operate the Maffra Holiday Park on a 21-year lease, as it looks to further enhance the range of accommodation options available in the town to tourists.
The park is located in Johnson Street and is presently managed on behalf of the council under a short-term, interim arrangement.
This facility is in need of substantial modernisation to fulfil its potential as a major tourism asset for Maffra. Acknowledging this, the council is offering the long-term lease as an incentive for a new lessee to invest in the park to provide much-improved facilities.
This represents an exciting tourism-focused business opportunity for the private sector. It is consistent with the council’s drive to ensure that diverse, quality accommodation is available across Wellington to help further boost a buoyant and expanding shire tourism industry now worth some $80 million a year and employing around 930 people.
Said Wellington’s Mayor Peter Gault: "We are keen as a council to ensure that a diversity of quality accommodation is available in Maffra to cater for visitors and we recognise the potential this has for the Maffra economy. The award-winning Cambrai Backpackers Hostel highlights the clear demand that is out there for accommodation to meet a variety of markets."
More information is available by telephoning Wellington’s Coordinator Property, David McQuillen on 1300 366 244.
