$11,250 Grant Restores Morwell Scout Hall The Morwell Scout Hall Has Been Brought Back To Life, Thanks To A $11,250 Grant From The Victorian Government’S Scouts And Guides Facilities Grants Program, Member For Morwell Russell Northe Said Today. By Russell North - 19th November 2014 - Back to News Representing the Minister for Youth Affairs Ryan Smith, Mr Northe officially re-opened the scout hall during his visit today.
Mr Northe said scouts play a vital role in our communities – they provide young people with opportunities to learn new skills make new friends from all walks of life and enjoy the great outdoors.
"Our local scout groups do an impressive job at providing top quality activities and programs for youth in our community," Mr Northe said.
"The refurbishment of the Morwell Scout Hall means that the scouts will be able to continue the fantastic work with local young people for many years to come.
"The hall’s refurbishment includes structural repairs, upgrades to the kitchen, bathroom, plumbing and electrics, and new whitegoods.
"This funding will help to make the clubrooms even more welcoming and provide a comfortable environment in which to learn and grow, and hopefully assist the scouts to attract more members and volunteers."
Mr Northe said the funding is part of the Victorian Government’s $4 million investment in updating ageing scout and guide halls across the state, many of which were built in the 1950s and 1960s.
"Previously the Churchill Scout Hall received $25,000 and the Glengarry Scout Hall $11,250 for refurbishment and repairs.
"Scouts Victoria and Girl Guides Victoria have also received an additional $280,000 each, to help them encourage greater participation of culturally and linguistically diverse young people and to improve training to volunteers.
"The total $5 million investment to support the Scouts and Guides is an important part of the Victorian Government’s Engage, Involve, Create Youth Statement."
