Victorian Agribusinesses Encouraged To Sign Up For World'S Largest Farm Show

Victorian agribusinesses are being urged to take advantage of growing opportunities in the enormous United States agriculture market by attending the world's largest farm show, the annual World Ag Expo held in California.

By Austrade - 17th August 2006 - Back to News

Of the 27 Australian agribusinesses that exhibited as part of the first-ever Australian Pavilion at the last World Ag Expo, 40 per cent have already achieved export sales valued at over $4 million.

More than 150,000 visitors, including major buyers, agents and distributors are expected to attend the 2007 World Ag Expo at which 1600 exhibitors from over 60 countries will showcase the latest agricultural equipment, technology, products and services.

Agribusinesses are being encouraged to attend Austrade workshops and roundtables being held across the country to provide information and advice on how they can participate in the Australian Pavilion at next year's event and identify new business opportunities in the US agriculture market that spends $260 billion on farm production a year.

Austrade's District Manager for the Great Plains and US agriculture specialist, Randall Tosh, commented that Australia's participation at the last World Ag Expo has lead to significant commercial success for participating agribusinesses, reinforcing Australia's reputation as a world leader in innovative technology and solutions in this sector.

"The Australian Pavilion had the largest presence of any foreign country in 2006 and included companies from across Australia showcasing a diverse range of products such as liquid fertilisers, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, animal genetics software, irrigation equipment and minimum tillage machinery," Mr Tosh said.

Glen McDonald from Victorian company Ultimate Fertilisers, a previous exhibitor in the Australian Pavilion, recommends local agribusinesses looking to expand in the US market to consider exhibiting at World Ag Expo 2007.

"The World Ag Expo is the best trade show I have attended in my 22 years in the industry because you are able to meet and network with many businesses and talk to many growers and producers and learn the different ways they do things," Mr McDonald said.

The Victorian workshop is being held at Lardner Park, Warragul (the venue of the Gippsland Field Days) on Monday 14 August 2006.

There has never been a better time for these and other Australian companies to crack the US market. The Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement has opened doors that were previously closed for our agribusinesses. Around 66 per cent of tariffs on Australian agricultural products entering the US are now zero

Austrade provides extensive support for Australian exporters in the US market with representation in 18 US cities, seven specialist industry teams and a dedicated network of US Export Advisers around Australia.

Randall Tosh, Austrade District Manager for the Great Plains and US agriculture specialist, is available for media interviews.

For more information about exhibiting as part of the Australian Pavilion, businesses should fax back the expression of interest form that can be downloaded from the World Ag Expo 2007 link on Austrade's events website www.austrade.gov.au/upcomingevents.
