BMX Track Delayed

A celebration to mark the opening of the new Coronet Bay BMX Track has been put on hold.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 9th October 2009 - Back to News

The opening was originally scheduled for Saturday, 19 September 2009, but recent rain meant the contractor was unable to complete the track in time. Despite this set-back, local young BMX enthusiasts were still out in force on the day and were given lessons on riding, albeit without the track.

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Arts and Leisure Coordinator, Jenny Churchill, said it was extremely disappointing that the planned celebration had not gone ahead.

"The contractor constructing the track was working to a very tight timeline," explained Ms Churchill.

"Unfortunately all the recent rain might have been great for our gardens, but it made it impossible for the workers to finish the track in time.

"Council has been working with the Coronet Bay Combined Group of Committees on this project and we were hoping to have the track open for 31 October," Ms Churchill continued.

Ms Churchill said despite the delay, there was still much to celebrate.

"Having this new facility in Coronet Bay for the whole community to enjoy is a great achievement," said Ms Churchill.

"Work is well underway and this will be a major recreation facility for all of Bass Coast."

The BMX Track opening has been rescheduled for 31 October and will be held in conjunction with the market and Cup Weekend celebrations.
