Thanks For Volunteers

The efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers were recognised at an afternoon tea held in Cowes last week.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 2nd March 2007 - Back to News

Bass Coast Shire Council’s Local Laws team and Karley Oakley of the Bass Coast Community Health Service organised the event to acknowledge the role of volunteers in community safety.

Council’s Local Laws Team Leader, Kaye Hall said volunteers were a crucial part of the Shire’s Summer Safety program.

"It’s a huge job to deal with all our summer visitors and to keep everyone as safe as possible.

"Without their commitment and help, our jobs would be even harder."

Ms Hall advised that from November onwards, there had been a constant need for Local Laws and other officers to work at and around events in the Shire.

"The help we’ve received from our volunteers this year has been exceptional," Ms Hall said.

"They’ve gone beyond the call of duty.

"Our volunteers have manned the Local Laws caravan, organised sausage sizzles, provided counselling, done street safety checks and run beach activities."

Ms Hall added that while the afternoon tea was a way of thanking everyone, it was also a way to formally recognise the work people have done.

Certificates of appreciation from Council and the Bass Coast Community Health Service were presented to the following volunteers:

  • Karley Oakley
  • Larnie Sobott
  • Ben Cooper
  • Emily Jones
  • Belinda Kirkles
  • Louise Sadler
  • Anthoula Emmanoui
  • Kylie Green
  • Cowes Lyons Group (Betty Tie)
  • Nyree Davis
  • Peter Fitzgerald
  • Sue Fitzgerald
  • Suzanne Crofts
  • Nancy Davis
  • Deborah Bratt
  • Phillip Island RSL
  • Phillip Island Lions Club
  • Royal Ambulance Victoria Cowes Branch

"All of these people do a magnificent job for the community," said Ms Hall.

"I thank them for all they have done in the past and ask for their continuing support with our upcoming programs."
