Bairnsdale and surrounding towns from 21 May 2011.

Each year, Sensis, the publisher of the Yellow Pages® and White Pages®, recognises the contribution of local residents in the community by featuring them on the cover of its books.

The theme for this year’s covers, Australians Creating a Better Future, recognises people throughout Australia who have made a positive contribution to their community through projects or initiatives that help to make a better future for Australia. These projects have contributed environmentally, economically and/or socially to the local community and will benefit the next generation of Australians.

Neville’s selection recognises his contribution to the community through his service with local organisation Friends of Metung.

As President of this not-for-profit group, Neville is at the forefront of planning discussions in the area, playing a crucial role in negotiations between residents and commercial developers to ensure that local development projects are of benefit to the region.

As part of his work with Friends of Metung, Neville organises regular tree planting activities, working bees, park clean ups and replanting initiatives which has resulted in generating greater animal biodiversity in the area, whilst also preserving the region’s natural heritage.

"I think it’s really important to make sure that a community preserves as much of its history and heritage as possible. This includes environmental, social and physical attributes - this is what we aim to do through Friends of Metung. To be recognised for this work is truly humbling and rewarding," said Neville.

In addition to his work with Friends of Metung, Neville is also on the Board of the Metung Development Group, which oversees the developments occurring around the Metung marina, to ensure the activities taking place will attract tourism to the region.

Rachel Peile, White Pages® Marketing Manager, says, "We felt the Australians Creating a Better Future theme was particularly relevant in the current environment, and Sensis is committed to promoting more sustainable practices in the community."

"Australians are known for their passion and patriotism, and the initiatives and projects we have discovered is a great reflection of the dedication that local residents across Australia have for their community. Sensis is proud to recognise these people," said Ms Peile.

"We were impressed by the number of people from all walks of life who commit their time and knowledge to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come."

"We felt Neville was a great example of an Australian Creating a Better Future and we are delighted to feature him on the cover of the 2011/12 Bairnsdale directory," said Ms Peile.

Distribution of Bairnsdale Yellow Pages® and White Pages® is planned to start on 21 May 2011 and will take approximately six weeks for the books to be delivered to all homes and businesses.
