Manufacturing Inquiry Submissions Welcomed Nationals Member for Morwell and Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Russell Northe has encouraged local manufacturers to provide a submission for the Victorian Competition and Efficiency Commission’s By Russell Northe - 23rd March 2011 - Back to News (VCEC) inquiry into a more competitive Victorian manufacturing industry.
The VCEC was established in 2004 to assess changes in the regulatory burden, and is currently conducting an Inquiry into a More Competitive Victorian Manufacturing Industry.
Mr Northe said the Commission has been asked to report on the changing nature of Victorian manufacturing, develop principles for manufacturing policy, and identify strategies to strengthen Victorian manufacturing.
According to Mr Northe, the VCEC has also recently released an issues paper for the inquiry to assist those wishing to provide input.
"While not intended to limit comments, this paper outlines the VCEC’s preliminary views about the scope of the inquiry and the key issues.
"Manufacturing is a key contributor to Gippsland’s economy with many small to medium and also large businesses contributing to our region’s wealth. Manufacturing provides substantial employment in the Latrobe Valley along with vital goods and services across all of Australia and overseas.
"It is therefore critical that our local manufacturers contribute to this inquiry that seeks to make the Victorian manufacturing industry more competitive.
"Submissions in response to this issue paper are invited by 15 April 2011 and I encourage local manufacturing businesses to provide input to the Inquiry.
"Comments, ideas and initiatives are very much welcomed, and will contribute to an inquiry which ultimately can be of benefit to many local and Victorian manufacturers in the future."
