Colour by region

We need your advice! How do you feel about our new colour scheme?

By Emma Kae - 21st November 2000 - Back to News

With the great growth in LVBusinessDirectory.com since its creation in July this year came a demand for individual pages for each region. Soon LVBusinessDirectory became Gippslander.com, with regional pages Baw Baw, Bass Coast, East Gippsland, Latrobe Valley, South Gippsland and the Wellington Shire.

Each region needed to be independently recognisable for our users. Our designers decided to colour-code each section in accordance with the appropriate shire logo for each area.

There is some logic in this concept – adding a dimension of familiarity to each scheme, coinciding with and supporting the recognition of each region. However, the fact remains that the colours for at least half of the regions were not created to be displayed on this site, and subsequently could be greatly imporved upon.

After publishing an article completely composed on the best ways to effectively enhance your site using colour, I feel that we are cheating ourselves out of the best look for Gippslander.com. Free from reliance on the Shire colours, we could create a fun, new, modern look that still fulfils its purpose of making each region identifiable.

We have decided to put the results down to a poll. If our consumers – that means you – are opposed to the present colours, or a change, speak now or forever hold your peace. At Gippslander.com, you matter, and we want to hear from you!
