Upgrade and improvements on the shared footpath are underway.

By news@gippsland - 10th June 2021 - Back to News

The shared footpath in the Fincher Street Reserve in Wonthaggi will be renewed this month, as Bass Coast Shire Council continues to enhance the town’s community assets and public spaces as part of the Wonthaggi. Opportunity Unlocked initiative.

Community’s better access

Unlocking improved access for pedestrians, these works will give residents and the local community a safe pedestrian connection to existing footpath networks and provide better linkages to other footpaths in the area. This path will also link into the Bass Coast Rail Trail providing the community with greater access to the 21km trail from Wonthaggi to Woolamai.

What to expect on the project

The$180,000 project is funded through Council’s 2021/22 Capital Works Renewal Program. The project is expected to start in in early June and will take around six weeks to complete, subject to favourable weather conditions and contractor availability.

The project will include the construction of around 500 metres of new concrete shared path, along Bent Street between McKenzie Street and Graham Street and other improvements, to upgrade crossings from gravel to concrete.

Minimising disruptions for traffic and pedestrian

Appropriate traffic and pedestrian management measures will be in place throughout the duration of the works, which may include some minor delays, due to the nature of the works.

Council appreciates that these works may present an inconvenience to nearby properties and business owners and asks for patience during these times. The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions during construction.
