Only some jobs are worth fighting for under Daniel AndrewsAfter ongoing negotiations with the Federal and State Governments 1600 jobs have been saved at Alcoa. By Portal Admin - 23rd January 2017 - Back to News "The news 1600 jobs have been saved at Alcoa after ongoing negotiations with the Federal and State Governments is a great relief for workers and their families in Victoria’s south-west.
"But the Andrews Government’s willingness to work 'around the clock' to secure jobs in Portland is a kick in the guts to hundreds of people in the Latrobe Valley who will lose their job when Hazelwood closes.
"Daniel Andrews is picking and choosing which Victorian jobs are worth fighting for to further his own political agenda.
"Just as Labor’s $252 million tax forced the closure of Hazelwood, Daniel Andrews' anti-forestry policies are also threatening hundreds of jobs in our timber and paper industries.
"The Andrews Government must immediately turn its attention to securing the future of all workers impacted by Hazelwood’s closure and jobs in our forest industries.
"Daniel Andrews is desperate to hold onto inner-city greens preferences to secure his own job and it is the people of the Latrobe Valley who are paying the price."
