Statement: Barely one month to Hazelwood closureA media blitz by the Andrews Government in the final days before Hazelwood’s closure will not create real jobs for the power station’s highly-skilled workforce. By Portal Admin - 27th February 2017 - Back to News Worker transition should have been the first priority of the Andrews Government, but instead Daniel Andrews abandoned workers and dithered nearly four months as Hazelwood’s closure looms.
In a months’ time around 750 people will lose their jobs, adding to the hundreds of local contractors that are already out of work.
If the Andrews Labor Government was fair dinkum they would have had this transition scheme in place long ago.
It has been Labor policy to close Hazelwood since 2010, but workers have been left in the dark for months while Daniel Andrews rewards his mates with high-paying jobs in the Latrobe Valley Authority bureaucracy.
In an act of pure political bastadry, Labor appointed the architect of Hazelwood's closure – a senior climate change and environment adviser to Premier John Brumby – to manage the Latrobe Valley's transition.
Daniel Andrews' glossy announcements aren’t worth the paper they're printed on while he fails to create jobs for Latrobe Valley workers.
