Fence For Taxi RankA taxi rank fence will be installed outside 70 Chapel Street, Cowes in response to concerns raised by taxi drivers and the community about behaviour at the rank. By Bass Coast - 31st March 2011 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Acting Infrastructure Director, Felicity Sist, said it would install the fence as part of other works being completed on the site.
"Council has decided to sell the land it owns at 70 Chapel Street," Ms Sist said.
"The proceeds of the sale will be used to fund improvements to the Cowes Civic Precinct in the future.
"As a result, we will be moving the public toilet to the corner of Thompson Avenue and Chapel Street. Some underground services will also be relocated.
"Once this has been done, we will install the fence at the taxi rank so that people are able to queue safely.
"The fence has a gate so when the rank is not being used, access to the laneway is maintained," Ms Sist continued.
Ms Sist said there would be some disruption to water and electricity when the underground services were moved, but this would be kept to a minimum.
Council will start the project in early May and expects it will take three weeks to finish.
