New sites promote audio

Audio is becoming one of the fastest growing interactive elements in modern webdesign.

A useful marketing tool, audio lends interest and depth to a website, entertaining users and keeping them glued to your page while you do your thing.

One of the biggest websites in any category is the highly controversial Napster – a portal for the downloading of tracks from just about any artist worldwide.

At the moment, an extraordinary marketing scheme is unfolding, created by the gurus at Pepsi. In an effort to increase sales during the highly competitive holiday season, the Pepsi team have launched their choose your music campaign.

The user collects 3 codes from Pepsi products, logs onto Excite and proceeds to create their very own personalized c.d. for free. So far it is proving to be a huge success, largely appealing to the tough youth audience.

Channel [V] have now added an audio component to their website in the Leg Up competition. Open to all bands across Australia, the competition collected thousands of MP3’s from across the country.

The top 100 are now competing for first prize – interviews, performances on The Joint, a professional clip in high rotation on Channel [V] the release of their single, a spot on the line - up for Offshore 2001, and a trip to New York.
