Kurnai College in BusinessStudents in Year 11 at Kurnai College won approval recently to enter a business program as part of their VCE studies. By Kurnai College - 13th October 2003 - Back to News The program, set up by the Young Achievement Australia Foundation, guides students through a whole business cycle. The Kurnai group are well into setting up marketing and finance programs, after having registered their business and established books including a share register and corporate bank account.
They chose to market boxer shorts, bought from a local manufacturer, but including their own design initiative. By the end of the school year, the group expect to make a small profit (most of which goes to a local charity), close the books, pay tax and a dividend to their shareholders, and liquidate their company.
Items are offered for sale now and until late October, when the company expects to wrap up in time for VCE exams.
The program has a great deal more than study value for the students: it presents as a viable alternative to finding employment for a teenager in the Latrobe Valley, and gives the participants a realistic introduction to all the work involved in making a profit. Sizes, colours and patterns available are listed below. Students invite anybody looking for a quality, locally made Christmas gift with a difference (and local content) to contact Mark Carnie on 0439 688 012.
