Coalition Delivers Funds For Country Hospitals

Victoria’s rural health services have been invited to apply for grants from the third release of the Victorian Coalition Government’s $56 million Rural Capital Support Fund.

Health Minister David Davis said $17.5 million in capital funding was available for country hospitals and health services, plus a range of rural stand-alone aged care services, community health centres and women’s health centres.

Member for Morwell Russell Northe has encouraged hospitals and health services in the Morwell electorate to apply for funding.

Mr Northe said Latrobe Regional Hospital (LRH) was successful in receiving funding under Round 2 of the Rural Capital Support Fund.

"LRH received $700,000 to construct a new purpose built facility for its ambulatory sub-acute services such as cognitive; dementia and memory services; chronic pain services; and the extension of the Continence Clinic," Mr Northe said.

"This funding has enabled Latrobe Regional Hospital to carry out works they would have had difficulty achieving without access to the Rural Capital Support Fund and I urge all our Health Services to consider accessing the latest round of funding," he said.

Mr Davis said country hospitals and health services had received more than $20 million over the past two years to carry out much-needed renovations or upgrades, in addition to other funds allocated in the Victorian Budget.

"This funding is in line with the Coalition Government’s Rural and Regional Health Plan and our commitment to ensure country hospitals are appropriately resourced," Mr Davis said.

"The Rural and Regional Health Plan outlines directions and actions aimed at improving the Victorian health system so that all rural and regional Victorians have access to the best possible healthcare outcomes.

"This round of funding grants will enable health services to upgrade amenities, implement new models of care and increase service capacity and efficiency."

Further information for hospitals wishing to apply is available on the Health Department’s website at http://health.vic.gov.au/ruralhealth/rcsf.htm. Applications close on 23 July 2013.
