As part of the program of events to celebrate the exhibition MAY’S: The May Lane Street Art Project currently on at the Latrobe Regional Gallery,

By Latrobe City - 11th May 2012 - Back to News

renowned street artist Phibs is conducting a two day hands-on workshop (19-20 May) aimed at focusing the creativity and raw expression that is the hallmark of street art.

The workshop will teach various street art techniques that participants can incorporate into an original street art piece on primed MDF board to take home.

Latrobe City’s arts director, Julie Adams, said that all materials would be supplied.

"We just ask that participants come prepared to express their creativity on the materials provided and we are really looking forward to seeing the resulting pieces. Street art, at its best, is a powerful expression of what the artist is passionate about whether that be political, environmental or personal concerns. It is a style that expresses a personality and this workshop will show participants how to harness their own creative urge and channel it into a unique work of art.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to work with Phibs whose experience as a street artist has taken him all over the world. We are delighted to be able to offer this chance for our local community to connect with and learn from such a well respected artist," Ms Adams said.

Light refreshments will be provided, however participants are encouraged to bring or purchase their own lunch as there will be a half hour break each day.

The two-day artist workshop with Phibs will take place on

Saturday 19 May and Sunday 20 May 2012 from 11.15am to 3.45pm. Cost is $85 or $75 Gallery Friends and student concession. Places are limited. Bookings and payment essential by Wednesday 16 May
