Connecting Fire-Affected Communities With ComputersThe Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has advised that the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) is coordinating the provision of free computers to fire-affected families and small businesses. By The Nationals - 25th February 2009 - Back to News "Giving those affected by the Gippsland fires the necessary equipment and infrastructure to reconnect their communities is vital to the recovery process," Mr Northe said today.
"In this technology-dependent age, the delivery of free hardware, software and services will help people to stay in touch with family and friends and assist in their return to work and study."
Mr Northe said people requiring support can register by calling Caroline at the AIIA on (02) 6281 9444 or go online using publicly available computers and visit http://www.aiia.com.au
Organisations able to donate ICT equipment and people with technical skills can also register to assist via the above details.
Computer access is currently available at the Traralgon Relief Centre courtesy of the Red Cross. Fire-affected families are also invited to make use of free internet availability at Traralgon Neighbourhood House, Breed St Traralgon, between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
Those requiring additional information on available assistance can visit their nearest recovery centre, call the Latrobe City Recovery Hotline on 1800 017 777 or contact Mr Northe’s office (66 George St Morwell) on 5133 9088.
