Public Meeting To Discuss Henry Street Trees

A public meeting on options for the future of Henry Street’s pin oak trees, will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday 26 April at the Civic Centre in Kay Street Traralgon.

By Latrobe City Council - 16th April 2007 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s deputy mayor, Cr David Wilson said council officers will be on hand to discuss issues relating to the trees and options for their removal or retention.

"The future of the pin oak trees in Henry Street Traralgon has aroused considerable interest among the local residents themselves and a number of community groups in Traralgon," Cr Wilson explained.

"A letter distributed to Henry Street residents in February identified a line of pin oak trees in the street as ‘inappropriate’, suggesting the trees were earmarked for replacement.

"Taking note of community concern both for and against removal of the pin oaks, council declared it would not make a decision on the future of the trees until public consultation had been undertaken. The public meeting that has been called for Thursday 26 April is part of that public consultation process," Cr Wilson said.

"At the public meeting, council officers will explain the rationale behind the proposed removal of the pin oaks while presenting alternative options for retention of the trees.

"I urge anyone with an interest in the future of the Henry Street trees to attend the public meeting, hear the options and voice their opinions. They can also write to council (PO Box 264, Morwell 3840) or use the ‘Feedback’ facility on council’s website www.latrobe.vic.com.au.

"When the time comes to make a decision, council can then take the community’s views into consideration knowing opinions are representative and based on accurate information," Cr Wilson added.
