Negative Result
Leisure Centre team member who has been awaiting results for COVID-19 has tested negative.
Latrobe City Council wishes to advise the community, Latrobe Leisure members and patrons that the Leisure Centre team member who has been awaiting results for COVID-19 has tested negative.
The Latrobe Leisure Centre team member, who recently returned from an overseas holiday in the United Kingdom, was tested on Sunday for COVID-19 (Coronavirus) following displaying flu like symptoms.
As a precautionary measure Latrobe City closed the Moe-Newborough facility. Thorough cleaning of the facility, by an external cleaning contractor, was completed on Monday.
Support has been provided to both the individual, who has been in self-isolation as they awaited the outcome of testing, along with all team members at the facility.
The demand on health services and pathology testing has resulted in a four day wait time.
We understand that this has been met with both frustration and a period of anxiousness for those who attended the Moe-Newborough Leisure Centre. While we acknowledge this, we can never fully understand the weight of uncertainty being felt by the team member involved and their family.
We commend our team member for speaking up and taking precautionary measures to isolate and undertake testing in what are challenging times.
As a result of the negative test the facility will resume operation at 6 am tomorrow, Friday 20 March 2020, with the exception of Group Fitness Classes and Learn to Swim.
Latrobe City Council assures all Latrobe Leisure facilities are kept safe and well maintained and that current precautionary measures will continue to be enacted during this time. This will include changes to our timetabled group fitness program to ensure compliance with social distancing expectations.
We continue to place the needs of our community front and centre of decisions that we make, ensuring we have the best strategies and plans in place to support our community and our many employees.
We are aware through media reports that a community member has returned a positive result. We wish that individual well and hope that they recover quickly.
We thank everyone for their understanding during this period.
