Would you like to find out what they are really doing in science class? Science knowledge is changing all the time. New discoveries can make current theories obsolete, or in need of substantial revision. Some of the science you were taught at school is no longer presented to your children. Similarly, they’re learning things in their science class that didn’t exist when you were at school! This can make it hard to help out with science homework or even figure out what they are actually learning in class.CSIRO Education and re-science invite the parents of students in Years 9 to 12 to a VCE Materials and Structures workshop. See how students apply their physics theoretical knowledge to real world events. Break metals and other materials, find out what can be built with them (and what shouldn’t be built with them!) and put science to good use. This is a rare opportunity to get your hands on the practical experiments VCE students perform to deepen their understanding of materials and structures, the cornerstone of modern engineering. Wednesday 4th May 6:00pm-8:00pm Monash Gippsland, Structures Laboratory, Room 3W106 FREE, refreshments provided. Bookings essential. Book by emailing Carly (carly.siebentritt@csiro.au) with your name(s) and postcode or call (03) 9252 6472.
