Local Laws Visit Corinella Probus Club

A variety of local law issues discussed with the Club’s 25 members

By Carol McCormack - 19th August 2002 - Back to News

Deb Amor, Local Laws officer with Bass Coast Shire Council, recently visited the Corinella Probus Club as part of the Council’s Local Laws public education program.

Council’s Local Laws Officers are available to visit schools and community groups to discuss local law issues.

During her visit, Deb discussed a variety of local law issues with the Club’s 25 members.

One of the topics discussed was the diversity of a Local Laws officer’s role. The job includes dealing with animals (both domestic and cattle), special events, and educating about and enforcing Council’s local laws.

Responsible pet ownership was one of the main issues that Deb spoke about.

Dog off-leash areas, operation of the pound and what happens if a Local Laws officer finds a dog wandering were some of the topics highlighted.

"During most of the year there are 8,000 dogs in the Shire, but during the summer this number increases to more than 20,000 dogs," said Deb. "It is incredibly important to register your dog so that it can be easily returned if lost."

Deb concluded her presentation by answering questions from members of the Club.

If you would like a Local Laws officer to visit your school or club, contact Council on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311.
