Member for Morwell Russell Northe today announced that a response had been received from the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Luke Donnellan with regards to funding for the much anticipated Traralgon-Morwell Shared pathway project.

Mr Northe had previously tabled a question in State Parliament asking when Latrobe City Councils application for funding for this project under VicRoads "Safer Cyclists and Pedestrians" fund was likely to be announced.

"Unfortunately the Ministers response to my question at the time was totally inadequate, so a formal letter was subsequently sent," Mr Northe said.

Mr Northe has now received a negligible response from the Minister stating that all projects under the "Safer Cyclists and Pedestrians" fund will be considered and announcements made by the end of 2016.

Mr Northe said whilst the Minister has given no firm commitment that the Traralgon-Morwell shared pathway project will be funded, we are hopeful for a successful outcome.

"Our local community has long advocated for increased bike path networks and the concept of the shared pathway has been discussed for many years," Mr Northe said.

"Many local bike riders and health enthusiasts have long desired to see the construction of a Traralgon-Morwell shared pathway.

"I would like to thank members of our local community for their support and efforts with regard to this project," he said.

"It has been a long and frustrating time but we will not give up the fight."

Mr Northe said it has been more than five years since the Coalition Government provided funding to Latrobe City Council to undertake a feasibility study on the preferred route of the Traralgon-Morwell shared pathway.

"A shared pathway will not only provide improved health benefits to local residents, but increase local tourism opportunities and provide safe pathways for recreational cyclists in our community," Mr Northe said.

"I will continue to advocate to the Government on behalf of our local community for the development of the Traralgon-Morwell shared pathway and ensure the current State

Government sees this as a key priority for our region."
